The opening concert of Mercury Baroque’s 10th season. Exotique! features beautiful French Baroque orchestral stage music meant to portray exotic foreign lands. Lully’s satirical ballet Le Bourgeois Gentilhomme (The Middle-Class Gentleman)  features Turkish-influenced music, including the popular “Marche pour la Ceremonie des Turcs”. The four acts of Rameau’s Les Indes Galantes each feature a different setting, including another Turkish-influenced act, as well as portrayals of the Incas in Peru and the savages of America.
